Jewish Palermo tour
4 hour walking tour
Your guide will lead you from the port through the ancient “Giudecca” – the district where the Jewish community lived voluntarily (existing in contrast to the compulsory ghettos implemented elsewhere in Italy) – and will reveal the hidden treasures linked to Jewish heritage in Palermo.
In addition to the fascinating old Jewish Quarter, you will also visit the State Archive, where the document announcing the Jews’ expulsion from Italy is on display. Continue on to the subterranean mikveh, located beneath the historic Palazzo Marchesi.
A special street food experience will close out the day, providing an opportunity to taste delicacies of the past, including a particular sandwich with a Jewish story, before you are accompanied back tot he port.
Although there are no operational synagogues in the city at present, renovations on a new synagogue – the community’s first since the Inquisition – are in progress. If you would like to visit this site, we will be happy to make these arrangements for you.
