Walking through Warsaw today, it can be easy to forget the destruction visited upon the city over the course of the 20th century. From bombings and sieges to Nazi rule, through the Soviet era; the devastation of the city, and its Jewish community, was unfathomable. With a post-Soviet influx of money, the city has worked hard to rebuilt and invest in reshaping itself to be a world-class capital once again. It shows in the recreated Old Town and in the skyscrapers surrounding the heart of the city. Today, it is also the centre of the Polish movement to re-establish Jewish communities.
Begin your tour in a square that was the heart of Jewish Warsaw. Once a center of life and culture, the square was a battleground of the Warsaw ghetto and was almost entirely destroyed in the fighting, and the post-war development dramatically re-formed the area.
We’ll walk through the oldest public park in Warsaw, one of the most beautiful and relaxing spots in the city. Visit
Polin museum featuring exhibits on historical and contemporary Jewish life; they are on the forefront of developing a cultural memory in Warsaw.
