Freiburg im Breisgau is one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, close to the Black Forest, Switzerland and the French Alsace. In our shore excursion we will combine a trip to the outskirts with a walking tour of the city, where Jewish life was first mentioned in the mid- 13th century. The highest number of Jewish inhabitants was counted in 1925 with 1400 people. In the 1940 350 Jews were left and deported to Vichy in France and ultimately to Auschwitz. The small post war community is developing a new presence, which takes part in interesting debates about the memorial culture in the 21st century.
