Fiorello La Guardia, Academy Awards, Theodore Herzl, Goodyear Blimp – all have a Croatian Jewish connection...! Take a journey through the ages, starting in the 11th century at founding of Zagreb; continue to the 14th century and the first arrival of Jews to the city, through the golden years of late 19th and early 20th centuries, when Zagreb developed rapidly, with the Jewish community reaching its peak.
Our tour includes visits to all the landmarks and sites of Zagreb, with detailed insight into the history of Jews in Croatia and surrounding areas, and the revival of Jewish life today. Visit the Jewish community and Synagogue*, the Mirogoj cemetery, the Jewish school in Zagreb, and the Judaica collection housed by the Museum of Arts and Crafts. Explore the site of the former Synagogue and various examples of Jewish architecture.
We also offer multiple-day tour packages that include all the major Jewish and general Zagreb sites plus visits to unusual locations, museum tours and more. Or you might wish to take an excursion about one hour's drive out of Zagreb to Lekenik, where in 1971 “The Fiddler on the Roof” was filmed. Visit the legendary Anatevka, have a photo taken in the same window where Tevye served milk and learn about the village’s Jewish past. We also offer tours to Jasenovac memorial center, the site of the former concentration camp where the saddest pages in the history of the Croatian Jews were written during the Holocaust.
*If you wish to enter the synagogue, please send your request well in advance, and our team will organize it for you.
