The tour begins with the ruins of Klaipeda Castle which was built by Teutonic Knights in 1252. Although it suffered major destruction throughout centuries of wars, some fortification walls and cellars maintained and other parts were reconstructed. You will enjoy a panoramic view of the city from one of the Castle’s Towers and afterwards you will be transferred to the Old Town, where the strong cultural influence from Germany is still visible.
Once there, you will walk from the central point of Klaipeda – Drama Theatre Square with a symbol of the city – famous monument to Taravos Anike (Annchen von Tharau), a character from popular German folk song. Continue the walk along the narrow streets of Old Town and admire their traditional 18th century style, pass by many old houses and historical buildings: Upper street, Bakers’ and John streets, Blacksmiths’ and Fishers’ streets, Passage of Friedrich.
At the dock of the river Dane you will see the symbol of Klaipeda: the educational vessel Meridian. The Jewish part of the tour includes visit to SINAGOGŲ GATVĖ (the streets of Synagogues), the building of the local Jewish Community and the remaining of the former Jewish Cemetery.
